On our way back from a short hike in Kazbegi, Georgia, we came across this car which was literally stuck next to it’s owners house. We’d seen cars on milk crates and even ridden in a few that seemed every bit as old as this one here but we’d never seen a car with plants growing through it before. Kazbegi was filled with beautiful scenery but this caused us to take our eyes off it for a bit and focus back on what life is like in rural Georgia.
The country of Georgia itself is a beautiful place and well worth the trip. It gloats that it is the birthplace of Europe and although I won’t enter into that debate it’s wine and beer are excellent as well as the old world feel of it’s cities and countryside. Getting around without Russian was difficult but well worth it as we met people very unused to “non-Soviets” who were only too happy to show us the way.

IF YOU GO: Georgia isn’t the easiest place to get to and I’d imagine that taking croatia holidays might feel fairly similar but the beauty and friendliness of Georgia just cannot be beat. Skip Batumi, fly straight to Tbilisi, (you must absolutely visit a hot spring bath) and take a bus from there to the beautiful hills of Kazbegi just a few hours away. You won’t regret it.
