Photo:Zulu Warrior Dance

When you visit South Africa there comes a point where you have to give in and visit a ‘traditional’ village.  When we arrived all the people in this photo were in normal street clothes but they changed into their Zulu Warrior outfits and gave us a proper dance, and even put us into some of those loincloths as well.

This photo was snapped in the middle of one of their dances……Kudos to whomever comes up with the best caption!

IF YOU GO:  We visited this Zulu village outside of St. Lucia which rests along the coast roughly between Mozambique and Lesotho.  We had a rental car so we drove out to one of these villages for the day at the advice of our hostel and although the experience was kitsch it was fun nonetheless.

Ellie and I spent a day and a stayover in the Zulu village. We were housed in a Zulu hut with all kind of weapons hug on the walls and a very modern bathroom. We were served a very nice dinner and saw a show with all the members doing various kinds of dances. it was touristy but fun and I have such nice memories of the chief spread out on a couch? on the stage dressed in a leopard skin.
