We were looking for anacondas in the wetlands. I know how crazy that sounds. Trust me, we were walking through muddy marsh most of the morning and I was terrified I’d find one before the rest of the group. You know, like face to face or shall we say, foot to face. Fortunately the only anaconda we saw was already in the hands of another guide, much to the chagrin of some members of our group. This skull however, we found in the pampas. Finding something like this in your field should be a sign that you’ve encroached too far into the amazon, but not to some.
Don’t worry Mom. He didn’t bite!

Check out our Country Guide to Bolivia. Between the amazon, the salt flats and the alticama there’s plenty to do, even on a tight budget. We did a pampas tour out of Rurrenebanque, read our Bolivian Pampas Tour Operator review if you’re headed that way!

This is rather menacing looking, but sounds like quite the adventure and I love the photo. I’m now on my way over to check out your anaconda post. I’m pretty adventurous but petrified of snakes, even the small ones so don’t think I’d actually go looking for them.

Thanks! I hate snakes too, I don’t know why I was out looking for anacondas, I guess I was just afraid of missing something cool on the tour…peer pressure!

Jillian,
You are braver than me. I would have headed for the hills if I came face to face with that skull. Yeah, that would be an irrefutable sign to get the heck outta Dodge! lol
Jillian says
Haha Renee! We had seen so many caymen all week that seeing the skull was more interesting than seeing the animal! I was terrified to go near the water- apparently they move slower on land…

Wow, that’s pretty gutsy!

NIce photo! If that croc were alive I never would have gotten so close 😉
Jillian says
Me neither, but I do hear they move slower on land!

If I was hiking and walked into that, I’d probably lose it! I get scared too easily.
