Gear

Traveling around the world requires a certain talent in packing. Thankfully we’ve been able to mooch off the ideas of others. We’ve brought pretty small packs with us, about 50L each- about the size of a carry on bag. We could definitely bring larger, but we’re trying to make things as easy as possible, and big luggage just doesn’t work well hoping on/off buses and trains. We chose our packs carefully based on size, fit and features.   That doesn’t mean we won’t and haven’t gotten rid of stuff along the way.  We’ll update this list, but here is what we have in our packs as of December 15, 2010 as we leave for Africa:

I’m actually in the process of packing my carry-on for a trip of uncertain duration, so it’s great to see what you guys brought with you (and how you packed it!).

Good stuff! Keep up the good blogging!

What size compression sac do you guys use (S, M, L)? I’m thinking of ordering one of those myself!

  • Danny said:

@ Rebeccius – We use a small one for dirty clothes and fit that inside a Medium that holds all our our clothes. In the future though we’re thinking to find a different sack for the dirty that will fit inside the medium a bit better… The small compression sack holds its form a bit too well.

That’s crazy how you fit everything in there! I guess my biggest question is do you carry your packs on you at all times? It doesn’t seem like something you can bring with you when you’re kayaking down waterfalls :)

  • Jillian said:

@ Lori- Nope, we have day packs that we take out with us. Usually the “big” pack stays locked up at a hostel or in a hotel room. Definitely can’t take them down waterfalls!
