Sometimes the diversity of plants amazes me. We caught this flower, which I think is an orchid in Monteverde Cloud Forest in Costa Rica. The tendrils look like something out of a horror movie, but the flower is so gorgeous it’s hard not to admire nature’s work. By the way, if you know what kind of flower this is let me know!
Monteverde Cloud Forest is a biosphere reserve in central Costa Rica. It’s a gorgeous area with incredible biodiversity, which is why it continuously tops those 100 places to go before they disappear lists. Obviously showing up on those lists has increase the tourism in the area and we spent time in Monteverde exploring the cloud forest by zipline (700m long above the trees)!

IF YOU GO: Costa Rica is very heavily traveled and you’ll likely encounter no problems in country. English is widely spoken in the touristy areas and there are plenty of fun, adventure style services like midnight jungle hikes, ziplining and horseback riding. I think microclimates, like the monteverde cloud forest are interesting- such diversity! There are also cloud forests you can visit as part of Ecuador or Cuba Tours.
