There is no greater pleasure in life than taking off down an unknown path. We drove to the southernmost tip of Hawai’i (the island) and followed incomplete directions along the coast.
There’s something special about hiking to a place that is unknown. Without a single sign or arrow to confirm out direction, we plodded on. The directions in fact, told us to drive to the end of the island, keep going even when we thought we couldn’t go any further, park at the ocean and make a left. A spectacular adventure if you think about it.
Unable to see the destination and without concept of time or distance, we walked through pastures until we reach what was undeniably the green sand beach. It was like discovering a secret treasure that was all ours.
IF YOU GO: Well you already have the directions! Take a left a keep on going. Taking off down an unknown path is always best done with a bit of preparation. Adventures are only fun when no one gets hurt. Like any hiking trip bring sufficient water, food and protection from the elements. Every adventure benefits from a little pre-trip planning.
