Gibraltar’s North Front Airport is just another airport, but different than just about any other in the world.
The amazing thing about this airport is that a road, Winston Churchill Avenue, directly intersects the airport’s runway…creating one of the the most dangerous airports in the world. Each time a plan takes off or lands, traffic is stopped just as is done at a rail road crossing or raised draw bridge. The History Channel goes so far as to rank this the fifth most dangerous airport in the world as it would only take one stupid drunk driver to wreak some serious havoc.
IF YOU GO: If you go to Gibraltar, chances are you’re going to drive in from Spain so this runway shouldn’t be much of a concern. The food is better in Spain anyhow but don’t be afraid to book a trip to Morocco while you’re in the area!
