Photo:Paris – The Eiffel Tower

February 22, 2012 By Jillian

The Eiffel Tower is situated in Paris. It is also known as, quite popularly, the Iron lady. This tower is the tallest building in Paris. This tower has a height of 324m (1,063 feet). The Eiffel Tower is made of wrought iron and is one of the most recognizable monuments in the entire world. It has become the global face of Paris and France and a major tourist attraction for people around the world. It is the most visited monument among the paid monuments of the world.

Every year, tens of thousands of tourists come to Paris just to see the Eiffel tower. The Eiffel tower is a beautiful building from a photographer’s perspective and its positioning in the center of the city makes for a very picturesque setting. In this photograph we can see a distant view of the Eiffel Tower, with the tower in the backdrop of some fountains, which has made this photo very interesting and beautiful.

IF YOU GO: If you do get a chance to visit this beautiful example of human creativity and excellent architecture then you must try to experience the thrill of standing at the top of the Eiffel Tower and looking below from such an intimidating height.   Plenty of apartments in Paris have views of the famous monument, you might want to choose based on view!

Photo: Notre Dame

December 21, 2011 By Danny

Notre-Dame is perhaps second only to the Eiffel tower when you think iconic images of Paris.  A n Catholic Cathedral, it is still considered as one of the best and finest examples of the Gothic architecture both in Europe. Completed in 1345, the Cathedral is incredibly large, 420 feet (128 meters) and 226 feet (69 meters) wide.

What makes Notre-Dame so famous, besides its age and the incredible stain glass windows are the flying buttresses. Initially, the cathedral wasn’t designed to have these iconic supports.  Built up higher than planned, they needed some way to hold up the walls and thus entered the flying buttresses.

The rose window, pictured below, is one of the most beautiful examples of stained glass in a Gothic church.  At the time labyrinths or circles for worshipers to follow on the floor were very popular. Walking along the path helped worshipers enter a meditative mood for prayer.  Although no one knows why circular windows were popular at the time, given the difficulty in building them, we can guess it may have had something to do with the meditative state the kaleidoscope of colors brings to the viewer!

IF YOU GO: Don’t miss out to see the five bells of Notre-Dame by just relaxing in nearby Paris apartments. Enjoy your stay and relish your memories.

Photo: Underneath Eiffel

September 27, 2011 By Jillian

The Eiffel Tower is probably the most iconic monument in the world.  I remember the first time I went, as a high-school student with my French class.  I was blown away by the Tower, mostly because this monument I held in reverence felt more like a carnival.  Vendors selling food, trinkets and surprise key chains out of their jackets roamed about, weaving in and out of the crowd like the wind.   The platforms of the tower were crowded and the wind at the top was so strong it felt as though we may lift off.

The Eiffel Tower may be one of the best known symbols of Paris, but fortunately there is a side of Paris beyond the famous symbols and monuments.  The Paris I fell in love with was in the neighborhoods, the cafes, the bustle of the metro, the shops and the streets.  That is the lifeblood of Paris.

Paris Eiffel Tower

IF YOU GO: Someone once told us Paris is the most visited city in the world.  Who knows if that’s true, but there certainly is enough to keep you busy and happy for weeks on end.  The best part of Paris though, is not the museums of monuments, its living like a local- visiting Paris apartments, cafes, restaurants and parks.
